The name "Rooh Afza" means "Soul Refresher" in Urdu.

During the holy month of Ramzan, Rooh-Afza is a common drink found when breaking fast during Iftar because of its refreshing qualities. It is also used to make iconic Pakistani sweets such as a falooda, a cold and sweet dessert made with vermicelli, basil seeds, and milk.

Rooh Afza was discovered by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, who is a famous Unani physician of herbal medicine. It is made from a blend of herbs, fruits, and flowers (like roses shown in the design art), coriander, mint, and watermelon. These ingredients are carefully selected and combined to create a unique and refreshing taste, with some health beneficial properties in dehydration and digestion, that has become an icon of Pakistani beverages.
